ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE
Why We Are Here
What Is Alzheimer's Disease?
Many people like to believe that Alzheimer's is considered an "Old Person's Disease,"
when in reality- the diagnosis goes much further than what meets the eye. Alzheimer's is
a Disease that affects the Brain. Plaques and Tangles form a mold that travels around the
Brain slowly eating away essential pieces that lead to complications in the future. This is
what causes the memory loss, and can lead to fatality. Something that can start off as
small as constantly forgetting where you placed your keys, can turn into forgetting that
you no longer live in your childhood home, and you haven't for years. Being typically a
hereditary disease, 1 in 3 Seniors are diagnosed in their later years, but "Early-Onset
Alzheimer's" can be diagnosed as young as 30 Years Old. But what is often times not talked
about is the length of time Alzheimer's Disease can take until one succumbs. Most may live 3-11 years, while some can live up to 20 years with the diagnosis. Seeing as there is no cure, Alzheimer's enjoys moving at it's own pace, which is why it can be one of the most difficult diseases to not only feel, but watch a loved one go through.
Why We Advocate
1 in 3 Seniors will be diagnosed with Alzheimer's, which means 1 in 3 families
will be personally affected by this disease. There is currently no cure for
Alzheimer's, but there are certain medications to help slow the progression of
Alzheimer's. When a cure is found, we want to know that we were able to
contribute to the life-saving medicine. For over 100 Years, this disease has
been tormenting families. And now, we are closer than ever to finding a cure.
By our advocacy, raising funds, and commitment, together, we can #ENDALZ.
